Terra Ligna maps are made by Grant Kaye and Mike Crabb in Truckee California.
Our partnership started six years ago, and the synergy of our collaborative efforts and unique skill sets allows us to bring our maps to life.
Since its inception, Terra Ligna maps have been made at The Truckee Roundhouse Community Makerspace.
In 2026 we are moving to our own dedicated shop space.
About Us
Grant Kaye MSc, PhD
Grant has loved and admired cartography for as long as he can remember. He pursued an education and then a career in GIS-based mapping as a natural hazards scientist for many years, earning a Masters of Science in Geology from Oregon State and a PhD in Hazard and Disaster Management from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. For years, Grant travelled around the world studying volcanoes and how their eruptions impacted their surroundings.
In 2008, Grant moved back to Lake Tahoe where he shifted gears and worked in GIS at the Town of Truckee through 2012, and then as a professional photography instructor & commercial photographer through 2020. Grant is currently the Marketing and Communications manager at the Truckee Tahoe Lumber Company, and a CNC/laser/woodworking instructor at the Truckee Roundhouse Community Makerspace, which he co-founded in 2015 with some friends. He is still involved in its operations.
Michael Crabb
Originally from Arizona, Mike now lives in Truckee, CA, where he provides woodworking tutelage at the Truckee Roundhouse Community Makerspace, and builds custom retail and trade show displays for a variety of clients including Jones / Yes snowboards, and Teton Gravity Research. Mike is a sawyer, operating with a massive collection of many lifetimes’ worth of incredible hardwood slabs.
